Affordable Care Act Health Insurance Marketplace
Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), there is special patient protection when you are insured through the Health Insurance Marketplace:
- Insurers cannot refuse coverage based on gender or a pre-existing condition.
- There are no lifetime or annual limits on coverage for essential health benefits.
- Young adults can stay on their family's insurance until age 26.
Medicare
Medicare is the federal health insurance program for:
- People who are 65 or older
- Certain younger people with disabilities
- People with End-Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a transplant, called ESRD)
